Mel Gibson Meltdown 2010

The recent recording of a phone call between Mel Gibson and his ex-girlfriend and mother of his 8 month old daughter, Oksana Grigorieva, has stirred up a lot of heated controversy.

In the phone call, Gibson proceeds to abusively curse at his ex-girlfriend about dressing too provocatively in public. He also hatefully disparages her breast enhancement surgery and, later, even uses the racist "N" word when referring to African Americans. Now it's coming out that he actually punched her in the mouth while she was holding his own child and effectively breaking her two front teeth. Later, he told her that she deserved it. He also verbally threatened to kill her with a baseball bat. Yikes!

I can honestly say that I thought his drunk driving incident was an aberration and simply brought on by the alcohol in his system. Now, I can clearly see that Gibson clearly does have some truly sexist and racist intolerance in his system. After hearing the conversation, I was saddened that such a talented actor and story teller is apparently losing the battle to his dark side.

Looking at his astrology chart quickly shows what's going on with Mel Gibson. He has Mars in Scorpio in his 5th house. This makes him incredibly charismatic, sexual, creative, and confident on one level, but on another level, it has the potential to make him arrogant, stubborn, and close-minded.

Adding gasoline to this fire, he has his Mars is also conjunct his Saturn in Scorpio squaring Pluto and Jupiter. All this indicates someone who has the potential to have a very cruel and sadistic side to them, a hard to control temper that can easily transform into rage, and a tough as nails determination to get whatever they want out of life for better or for worse.

All of us, of course, have a shadow side and a more evolved side. Every single planetary placement in our birth chart gives us the choice to take either the high road or the low road. Mel Gibson could have used his tough energy to be a warrior for love, peace, and spiritual growth instead of the hate and violence that has occurred toward someone he supposedly once loved.

I was once a really big admirer of his work, but now I'm just disgusted by his behavior. Even if his actions were due to alcohol being in his system, it doesn't make his behavior any less repulsive. I guess it turns out that he really is Mad Max.

I remember being enthralled yet shocked at all of the violence in his movies from Braveheart, The Patriot, Apocalyto, and the Passion of the Christ. Unfortunately, it is shockingly evident that all of these films show a very true to life rage that exists in his psyche in real life.

This does appear to be the end of the road for his amazing career. He has Saturn opposite his midheaven which indicates that his career will face obstacles that may prove to be impossible to overcome. I would say that this situation he's currently in certainly applies.

In addition, Saturn is currently conjunct his Moon which symbolizes that he is absolutely miserable in his life right now. Even if this particular incident would have never happened, he would still quite likely be going through a period of deep retrospection and quite possibly a depression.

The higher meaning of this placement is that he is being called upon to overcome a lot of his emotional issues and become more whole psychologically. From all of the hateful remarks he's made against women, African Americans, and Jews, I think he's certainly got his work cut out for him.
