Astrology & Intuition

A lot of things come into play when I use astrology. The most obvious, of course, is the vast amount of astrological information that needs to be absorbed. To accurately interpret someone’s astrology birth chart, it’s very important to have a firm grasp on the fundamentals of astrology.

The skilled astrologer has to deeply understand the core philosophies of each zodiac sign, the basic energy patterns of each planet, and the area of life described by each astrology house. After you have that down cold, it becomes all important to synthesize all the data into a solid coherent message and/or theme. It admittedly does take a lot of dedication and effort in the beginning, but if you have an intense desire to understand yourself on the deepest level, trust me, you will absorb the information like a sponge.

After all, that is why most people take the plunge into studying astrology. I know that’s why I did. Due to this, I’ve found that I’m forever in the process of continuously digging ever deeper.

One interesting thing that I’ve observed is that there is a certain process of psychic ability that is noticeably strong in the astrological process. Don’t worry though. What I’m referring to here is simply good old-fashioned intuition.

First of all, let’s define the word intuition. Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines it this way: the power or faculty of attaining direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference.

From this definition, we can clearly see that the process of intuition has a somewhat mystical quality about it that certainly follows in line with what we think of as psychic ability. In my case, I tend to think of intuition as a sort of extrasensory perception in which I’m able take the facts that I see and intuitively weave them into a story that is magically accurate.

I’m sure all of us have somehow just known that something was going to happen before it actually did happen. Now you can certainly argue that intuition is merely your brain’s way of sorting through data and making a sort of statistical conclusion. There’s probably some truth in that, but still there’s more to intuition than meets the eye, I assure you.

Let me explain. When I’m with a client and I’m consulting with them about their astrology birth chart, I immediately go on autopilot with my explanations about their life. What I’m trying to say here is that, after crunching all of the data and pouring over their entire chart, I begin to see a theme or, even better, a storyline. This is where my imagination kicks into high gear.

Now when I say imagination, what I really mean to say is my intuition because while my logical left-brain has analyzed this immense amount of data, my more intuitive right-brain takes the baton and begins to run with it. What happens is that I kind of transform myself into a story-teller.

This is a very important transition as an astrologer. You see, I could quite easily go through the chart and go over each individual element one-by-one. Sometimes, that is helpful, but what my clients are really wanting is someone to piece it all together for them so that they can see the bigger picture.

It’s very much like attempting to read a book in French, but only recognizing a couple of words at best. In this case, you would either have to drudge your way through the book with an English-French dictionary and look up each individual word as you go or you could have the book read to you by someone who speaks fluent French. You could also try to find the book in English, but that kind of distracts from my point :-D

My role, therefore, is that of the translator of a very different language I guess you could say. I strongly encourage you to study astrology, but please don’t neglect the development of your intuitional skills which are of equal importance.

It’s very important, of course, to have a firm grasp upon the astrology fundamentals, but the role of one’s intuition should never be overlooked. In fact, you’ll find that you’ll only get so far with your understanding of an astrology birth chart if you attempt to understand it from a purely logical reasoning process.

Logic and reasoning must be perfectly balanced with imagination and the intuitive process to truly bring the astrology birth chart to life. The intuitive right-hand side of your mind must come into play to weave together the various elements into a coherent story. In so doing, your intuitional skills allow you to see the complete person with his or her assets and challenges in plain view.
