Astrology Houses - Such a Fine House!

Welcome to our discussion on the houses of the astrology birth chart.
There are twelve astrology houses that govern different areas of our lives. When our astrology birth chart shows that we have a planet in a particular house it takes on a heightened significance. The house a planet resides in describes the particular arena of our life that the planet’s energy will take place in. The houses also describe our unique approach to each of these areas.
The astrology houses are essentially where the action takes place in our lives. All of the houses are important, of course, but the houses that have planets in them are given the spotlight in our lives.
Okay, let’s begin our tour!
First House – The first house is an extremely important house. This is because it is the house of our ascendant or our rising sign. Basically, the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the exact time of our birth is our rising sign. This is why the time of birth is so essential to getting an accurate astrological birth chart. It quite literally sets the tone for the rest of the astrology birth chart because it determines the order that the zodiac signs fall in our birth charts. For example, if someone has a
Virgo
Rising Sign this means that the zodiac sign of Virgo lies on their first house cusp. Therefore,
Libra
would lie on the 2nd house cusp,
Scorpio
on the 3rd house cusp, etc. The first house describes our attitudes and outlooks on life and the world. It forms a central part of our personality. Our Rising Sign is how we present ourselves to the world and/or how the world sees us. Any planets in this house add to the description of our Rising Sign.
Second House – The second house describes the things in life that we tend to value. It describes our point of view towards money and the talents we have in acquiring it. Most importantly, our second house informs of how we value ourselves or, more specifically, exactly what we feel makes us worthy. An example of this is an
astrology birth chart
with
Mercury
in
Gemini
in the second house. This person would greatly value his ability to make money and would use his ability to easily communicate his ideas to manifest it. He would value information, learning, and communicating. He could easily be a writer of some sort.
Third House – The third house describes how we communicate our ideas. It also symbolizes our siblings, neighbors, our early education, and short journeys. A man with
Mars
in
Scorpio
in this house would tend to be rather blunt and to the point. He would have an intolerance for small talk and desire into deeper and more meaningful conversations. He could also have a wickedly sharp tongue when angered.
Fourth House – The fourth house describes our roots, childhood, home, family, and our subconscious. A man with
Saturn
in the fourth house would have most likely experienced a strict, rigid, and/or religious upbringing. He will greatly value organization and a sense of order in his life, but especially in his own home.
Fifth House – The fifth house describes our love affairs, romance, children, and our natural creative talents. This house describes in part how we approach our love life. It also shows us how we can successfully access our creative talents. If a woman has
Uranus
in her fifth house, she will tend to have relationships where the attraction was sudden and intense and then a short while later ice-cold. This would give her love-life a roller coaster type feel to it. She can access her creativity by honoring her unique and original ideas and trying them out. This placement urges her to try different and unusual approaches to find her creative talents.
Sixth House – The sixth house describes our attitudes and approach to the work that we do in our lives. This is the house of how we serve others. It also describes our general health and any problems that we may have with it. A woman with Saturn in the sixth house describes an individual who has a great sense of duty and/or responsibility. She will tend to be a workaholic and have a hard time relaxing. This placement blesses her with robust physical health. Her health can suffer, however; due to her tendency to neglect getting enough rest.
Seventh House – The seventh house describes our intimate relationships and closest friendships. This house describes the personality traits that we are looking for in others that complement our Rising Sign. If a woman has her
sun
in
Aquarius
in the seventh house. She will need a partner that is very confident, unique, and very much his own person. Her partner would need to make their relationship as high of a priority as she does. In addition, she would require all of her friends to display Aquarian traits as well.
Eighth House – The eighth house describes support from others financially, emotionally, or spiritually. This is the house of sexuality, spirituality, and secrets. This house also includes our partner’s assets and joint resources.
Ninth House – The ninth house describes our higher education, long journeys, and higher philosophies. A man with
Jupiter
in the ninth house indicates someone who has a great need to learn and actively pursue advanced educational degrees. He will love traveling around the world and experiencing different cultures methods and belief systems.
Tenth House – The tenth house describes our social status and our career aptitudes, talents, and ambitions. A woman with
Neptune
in her tenth house will tend to blend her compassionate natures her career. This could take the form of a social worker, spiritual counselor, or a psychologist. This is also the classic placement for those interested in an acting career.
Eleventh House – The eleventh house describes our highest dreams, our more casual friendships, and our humanitarian qualities. A man with his
sun
in the eleventh house makes this person a natural leader of some sort amongst his peers. He has strong humanitarian urges to assist society as a whole in any way that he can. He will tend to be a late-bloomer in life and experience great success due to his understanding of his earlier life.
Twelfth House – The twelfth house describes our subconscious mind, how we recharge our batteries, and parts of ourselves that we hide from others. A woman with
Pluto
in her twelfth house symbolizes that she has great inner strength available to her. However, she may keep it hidden away from others. It is also quite possible that she isn’t aware that she even possesses it. Pluto here also gives a great connection to the spiritual realms. She will feel an intense depth of emotion and therefore needs to express it through journaling, physical exercise, or through creative expression in the arts.
