Astrological SoulmatesPart I - Sun Sign to Sun Sign Aspects
The subject of astrological soulmates is easily the most frequent question that I get asked about. In my own astrology consultation practice, I am frequently asked to take a deep look into my client's love life. However, they usually are not just asking how compatible they are with their current partner; instead they are interested to know if this person is their actual soulmate. With this in mind, let us take a look at what astrological patterns between two birth charts could very well indicate that you have found the true love of your life. *****Before we begin, I do need to mention that as you read about the various aspects (angles between the planets) that you realize that astrologers use what is called an orb which simply means that the planets are allowed a few degrees of leeway on either side of the number that would make the orb exact (or perfect). For instance, with a trine you need two planets to be 120 degrees apart, but if the two planets are actually 125 degrees OR 115 degrees the aspect still works. The 5 degree difference is called the orb. Most astrologers use 5 degrees between the planets, but I tend to be a bit more liberal with their use. I personally use a 10 degree orb especially with the Sun and the Moon. ***** ConjunctIt is usually important (though not essential) if the Sun Sign to Sun sign aspects are compatible. When you and your partner have the exact same Sun Sign, you can really relate to each other. Both of you have very similar thought processes and goals in life. The only downside is that you can be too much alike. This means that it is possible that you two may not see things objectively because you think too much alike. Overall, though, the chances are that both of you will find this aspect to be quite comfortable. At its very best, this aspect can be quite blissful.TrineIt is usually important (though not essential) if the Sun to Sun aspects are compatible. One of the most harmonious aspects is when the two Suns connect with a pleasant trine (120 degrees apart). This would mean that the Suns are in the same element. The elements are Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. If for instance, two people have Water Sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) Suns then this would indicate that they both tend to feel their emotions very deeply. The result of this would be that they would be able to make a very special emotional connection because they are basically communicating through a shared frequency (water in this case).
SextileThe sextile aspect (60 degrees apart) is also favorable because the elements are complementary, but not exactly the same which results in a sort of curiosity and excitement in regards to each other. An example of this would be someone with a Fire Sign Sun (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) in a relationship with an Air Sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) Sun individual. This would indicate that the Fire Sign person finds the Air Sign person incredibly interesting, if not fascinating. In return the Air Sign person would find the Fire Sign person to be so full of life and enthusiasm and, most importantly, a lot of fun to be with. SquareThe square aspect (90 degrees apart) does not necessarily mean the relationship is doomed to fail, but it does indicate that both you have distinctly different approaches toward life in general. At its worst, this aspect between can indicate that there is some serious ego issues that truly need to be ironed out if the relationship is going to succeed. At its best, it can indicate that the two of you are competitive, but in a friendly way (if the ego stuff is worked out). This aspect can truly cause both of you to experience the relationship as energizing and dynamic. Rarely, if ever, will you ever find each other boring! OppositionThe opposition (180 degrees apart) is probably one of the most fascinating aspects between the Suns. This is because each sign is literally opposite (180 degrees) one another in the zodiac and truly demonstrates the cliché that opposites attract. For instance, if one person has a Leo Sun Sign and her partner has an Aquarius Sun Sign this would indicate that the signs are opposed. What this indicates is that there is an intense attraction between the two of you. There is an absolute fascination with the other person. The reason for this is because each person contains opposite yet complementary traits that the other does not have. This is actually a strength that could make the relationship quite successful if each person handles their own unique strength and lets the other do the same. The danger with this type of aspect is that the relationship could quite possibly turn into a sort of love-hate scenario. One day you could be completely angered at your partner and the next day you could find yourself totally in-synch with your partner giving the relationship a sort of yo-yo vibe to it. If each partner does not fully appreciate each other, this relationship could grow sour rather quickly. The best way to think of the dynamic of this relationship is to picture a see-saw. Do you remember how each person would have to push off so that the other person could have a turn? Well, that is exactly how it works in this relationship; both of you have to work together in a very fluid manner. If the two people can do this right, this relationship has a great chance of working out because it will have a comfortable hand-in-glove type of feel to it.
