The Age of Aquarius
The Age of Aquarius is not a mythical concept by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, the world is currently in the beginning stages of this exciting new period in human history. Let's take a look at what's going on astrologically in the world right now and the effect it is or will be having upon us to usher in the Age of Aquarius. It seems that nowadays everyone is struggling on some level while the emotions of fear and dread have become commonplace. The times we're all facing are indeed very tough. Unfortunately, it seems as though a lot of people are walking around waiting for the proverbial bottom of the bag to drop out. In reality, these are truly remarkable times that we're all witnessing. As an astrologer, I get to be in the fortunate position of seeing the deeper meaning of things by translating the beautiful language of the stars. The first stage of the Age of Aquarius has been set as the current Saturn opposite Uranus configuration has people gripping tight to the old (Saturn) and resisting change (Uranus) with all the strength we've got. The overall theme of the Age of Aquarius is one of gradual evolution to a higher and more evolved global consciousness as represented by the Jupiter/Neptune/Chiron conjunction in Aquarius. This particular conjunction symbolizes expansive (Jupiter) unconditional love (Neptune) and healing (Chiron) for humanity (Aquarius). This configuration is urging the people of this world to unite together as the "me first" mentality slowly falls away. The Age of Aquarius is taking us in the direction of relying more upon each other and our local communities rather than giving our power away to our governments. We're learning that government can't always save us. Conversely, we can't always be pointing the finger at our government for all of our problems. Instead, we learning that we're all responsible in some way for the present circumstances we find ourselves in. We have to get involved and not leave up to the next person to make the changes that we wish to see. As Gandhi once famously stated: "We must become the change we want to see." We the people hold the power. We always have and we always will. We just seem to have lost our way on that one important point. Once we re-discover this we can all be the keys to success that we're seeking. Meanwhile, Saturn officially entered the zodiac sign of Libra on Oct 29th, 2009 where it will stay until October 6th, 2012. Saturn feels right at home in the balanced and justice-minded world of Libra. Saturn's transit here compels humanity to learn to let go of competitiveness and selfishness. Instead, we are all urged to strive toward the Libran spirit of peace and compromise. Do you see a pattern here? Saturn's transit in Libra presents the perfect time for us to strive for balance and equality in the relationship arena. This applies to all of us on an individual basis and also to the nations on a more global level. This placement of Saturn reminds me of the biblical story of Cain and Abel when Cain murders his brother out of jealousy because his brother had received more praise for his offering to God than Cain did. Cain is then questioned by God of the whereabouts of his brother Abel. To this question, Cain defensively states "I know not. Am I my brother's keeper?"
Saturn's transit through Libra will show the world that the resounding answer to Cain's question is yes; of course we're our brother's keeper! Like it or not, we're not on this Earth alone. We're all in this thing called life together and it's in our own best interests to look out for the welfare of one another as best we can. Fairness, equality, and balance are the themes that this placement will challenge us on. When the wants and needs of the other are taken for granted in our personal relationships or between nations, it's time for us to look within ourselves and recognize that we, ourselves, are out of balance. Saturn in Libra is teaching us to reach within to give out the love, compassion, and fairness that each of us deserves. Pluto entered the zodiac sign of Capricorn back on November 27, 2008. On November 08, 2009, Saturn transits into an exact square with Pluto. Since Pluto is in Capricorn, you can expect to see continued and noteworthy changes in big business and finance. This is a highly significant configuration that will transform the power structure of the world in a major way. The leaders of the world are being called upon to make some serious changes to the way that they do business. The era of worshipping money and disregarding the needs of the people is coming to a close. A power structure that has more integrity and truly serves the needs of the people is the highest calling of this placement. Pluto's effect is a lot like a forest fire that burns parts of the forest to the ground. Notice that I said parts of the forest and not the entire forest. This is because Pluto typically destroys only what is not working and strengthens what is working. Only the businesses and people that display the most integrity and conscientiousness will survive during this period and could actually go on to become leaders in the brave new world that is upon us. The needs of our planet will also be taken much more seriously as the effects of our poor decisions regarding Mother Earth will be brought out into the open. Pluto will deeply compel us to take notice and make decisions that take her into account. The environmentalism movement will continue to grow and become more powerful. That is guaranteed. That's a good thing as far as I'm concerned. After all, just how many more strip-malls and fast food restaurants do we actually need at the expense of wild-life and nature?
The bottom line is that the Age of Aquarius that we've all heard about for seemingly forever is finally upon us. The highest ideals of these times is one where a true global community is established along with the gradual blurring of any distinctions that have made us feel separate from one another in the past such as race, nationality, and religion. Lastly, I'm sure that many readers may be thinking that all of this sounds far too Pollyanna. Am I really implying that a wonderful Utopia is on our very doorsteps? Well yeah, I guess that's exactly what I'm saying with the only exception being that the changes that are coming won't happen overnight and they won't come about without a lot of resistance and struggle from people who are frightened of change. I think it's very helpful to think of these new times as being a lot like child-birth. The mother experiences great pain and sacrifices her own well-being, and even her life in some instances, so that she can bring her beautiful child into existence. These times are very similar to that metaphor. Lastly, please also remember that we're only at the very beginning of this very momentous period of humanity. The Age of Pisces that we're now leaving lasted a little over 2000 years. Consequently, think of the Aquarian Age coming at us at the speed of a glacier instead of the speed of lightening. These changes represent a very gradual evolving of consciousness that happen over a very long time. However, by the time Pluto leaves Capricorn in 16 years and enters Aquarius, you can bet that we will have surely gone a long way towards integrating the Aquarian values of establishing a global community based upon the values of equality, brotherhood, and progressive thought that advances humanity forward. Pluto's entry into Aquarius will deeply root those Aquarian ideals into the global consciousness. |
